I remember being cold.
The ground was littered with reds and yellows
like forgotten pieces of a ticker tape parade.
We used to exhale the cold like cigarette smoke.
We thought we were so cool, waiting for the bus.
That night we roamed the streets like little demons set free,
hitting each other with pillowcases brimming with sweets.
You had a stocking over your face.
I laughed at you. You looked so stupid.
You laughed at me because Mom dressed me up as a skunk.
When I started crying, you gave me some of your candy.
We ran home in the dark.
