Michelle Tomaski – Assignment 3

Element Elementhotel

dan price hw3

Las Vegas is a sweet place to be, if you have the money for it. The hotel I was assigned was the Skylofts. There home page was taken from the out side of there building and from there you can work your way thought the building by taking a tour virtual tour of there hotel. Instead of starting the tour on the outside of the hotel I choose to start in the lobby of the hotel instead. I thought the the shot was more colorful and showed off how nice the hotel was from the fist glance of it.

Cody Swann Assignment 3

I was assigned La Quinta Inns & Suites.  The website left a lot to be desired but also is not a high end hotel like many other hotels in Las Vegas.  So in my redesign I didn’t try to make it something it isn’t.  I redesigned the header and navigation and rearranged the elements in the body.  My end result is a more attractive yet simple design.

Anthony Barsotti – Assignment 3

To me, Las Vegas thrives on the idea of cheap thrills. There’s cheap, all-you-can-eat buffets all over the strip, magicians, and bright lights across every square foot. However, there’s another side to Vegas that is extremely elegant and quite a few hotels on the strip possess this quality. The hotel that I was assigned, The Wynn, is one of these hotels, displaying gorgeous architecture and various upscale attractions including a golf course. I was surprised to find, though, that their current website lacks this elegance and comes off as a bit “cheap” for lack of a better word. When you first visit the site, there is audio that automatically plays (which is really a really obnoxious feature on any website, in my opinion), a flash animation that is semi-realistic but still has an awkward animated quality to it, and the page lacks a footer — something that I find really ties a layout together while adding an immense amount of navigation links, contact information and social media icons. For my re-design I replaced the flash animation with a still image that would actually be a Javascript slider in the final, coded layout. I also added a footer including the features I mentioned earlier and replaced the concierge widget with one that has a black background containing all of the features and is now shifted to the right. The reason for shifting it to the right is so that on inner pages that have a secondary navigation bar on the left side, the concierge widget doesn’t interfere with the navigation. I kept the color scheme that they currently use for the most part, with black background wrappers and white/light-grey text. I also changed the text throughout the pages from all-caps to a more legible system that uses a capital for the first letter and the rest lowercase (as you would normally write).

Here is a gallery of screenshots from their current site:

Clark, Katherine Assignment 3

Las Vegas, The Bellagio

The original design is somewhat busy and unnecessarily complex. Lots of drop shadows and gradients and bevels. The navigation needs to be reorganized and prioritized according to what people are looking at this site for..

For the redesign, I moved the navigation to the left and flattened all of the elements. I feel that a site can look elegant and high-end, without all of the ornament. Although this was probably wrong, I also redesigned the Bellagio’s logo and flattened that as well. The whole site uses photography to communicate.

Slider moves out to reveal other navigation options. Less frustrating than drop downs. Slideshow at top rolls through different room photos.

Assignment 3 – Jonathan Kwak

To be an artist with 1000 true would take immense dedication. I feel like there would need to be consistent interaction with those fans, whether it’s updating them about current projects, or getting items into the shop. I feel like in the beginning without some sort consistency true fans would be difficult to develop. I think keeping in contact with these true fans doesn’t necessarily need to direct. Although interaction at an event of some sort would create a stronger bond, technology is moving people closer. Contact might be updating a blog or social media page.

Homework Assignment 3 / Kaitlin Mueller

Having 1000 fans would, on one hand, be awesome; you could support yourself financially speaking with your artwork. The downfall is pressure and high demand for new work.

Hypertext is the method by which you move around on the web using text which contains links to other texts, but is not constrained to text (could include images, videos, etc. Hypertext is the underlying concept defining the structure of the World Wide Web, making it easy to share information over the internet. All of the listed links are hypertexts.

Jackie Conley Assignment 3

This I can’t imagine being an artist with 1,000 true fans. It must be daunting, yet rewarding. If I did have 1,000 true fans, I would be sure to have multiple ways of keeping them in-the-know, what with blogs and websites. Louis CK recently did an Ask Me Anything on a popular content aggregator, which I thought was a creative way to interact with your fans on a more personal level.

Hypertext is text (that is also a link) which leads you to another website. Yes, all three are examples of hypertext.

I played one of the games and I thought the animation was very endearing. But I get bored of games easily and I didn’t think it was as interesting as it could have been. ( I did love the animation though).

*The post was being kind of wonky and wouldn’t let me write or upload images, so my website jpeg is in the MEDIA tab.

Assignment 3 Paul Shiah

1000 True Fans

I think that having 1,000 true fans would be great. To know that that many people are interested and inspired in your work would be extremely rewarding. Like many students, my fan base is mainly the people I’m surrounded with: classmates, friends, and family. If I could reach the point in my art career where 1,000 people actually followed what I did and were genuinely interested, that would be successful.

Assignment #3 – Megan Baker

1000 True Fans
Currently being unable to make any sort of living in art, it’s hard for me to even try imagining having 1,000 true fans right now and that number just sounds so huge. The article was incredibly interesting and when you think about it, it makes perfect sense that if you had 1000 people who truly loved everything you made and were willing to pay out the nose for everything you made, then it definitely would be very possible to make a living off of that. I’m always surprised at the amount of money people are willing to pay in commissions for stuff, online, but if you were to multiply that amount by 1000 and then several times over again when customers repeat purchases, than someone could definitely make a living off of that. If I had 1,000 “true” fans I would probably set up some sort of web base to contact them with, having a website that provided them with all the information about when and where I would be places, what my email was, when and how to contact me, etc. That would be the easiest way to reach out to that many people who may be anywhere in the world, and if they really were your true fans they would definitely check it, frequently!

Assignment 3 – Kelly Adams

http://interactivemedia.seancohen.com/fa2012/adams_kelly/assignment3/website_re-creation.png

1000 True Friends
I really liked this chart. It made me think of actual true friends. Especially in the art world, and with facebook now a days, a person can make 1,000 true fans and not have any popularity whatsoever. How many photographers are actually out there and have a fan base within their community, or a tri-state area, but aren’t actual “famous” photographers. It’s comforting that you don’t have to be at the top to actually get somewhere, you just have to be something worth caring about. Or have a subject that people can create a fan base around.

Hypertext is text displayed on a computer or other electronic device with references (hyperlinks) to other text that the reader can immediately access, usually by a mouse click, keypress sequence or by touching the screen. These websites are definitely hypertext.

Assignment 3 – Kathy Wyche

1. It’s hard to imagine myself being an artist with 1,000 true fans. That is quite a lot of people. I would hope to impress that many people with my work one day. I suppose we’ll see what the future holds. If I were ever to gain that many fans, I would love to keep in touch with them. I would go about that through blogging, gallery appearances, or email. Something I found interesting from the article was the part about the artists who just want to make art and not have much to do with their fan base. I understand that. Being alone with your craft is kind of nice. However, I feel as though I would want to thank them. I would want to see them face to face. I want to know their interpretations of my art.

2. A hypertext is a given text that link to other sources such as webpages that the reader can instantly access by clicking. So yes, all of these examples are hypertexts.

Assignment 3 – Ashley Hauck

1000 True Friends

Over this past summer I started to sell a few of my designs at a local bird store. Since this is my first real experience selling my art, it was very exciting for me and after my first sale I imagined myself selling millions of dollars worth of art and living happily ever after. Through this process I remember my dad simply telling me that if I were to sell 1000 copies of art a year, at $100 a piece, I would be able to make $100,000 a year. Just as the article stated, if I could come up with a new design once a year and had 1000 fans buy that art every year….I would be set! This article really made me think more about what my dad said and realize that I dont have to reach a full sense of stardom in order to be successful. This is quite the relief to me!

Blog post – Assignment 3 – Kristabelle DelaCruz

1000 True Fans

As a student I consider my fan base my peers at school, my family, and my friends. The support that I get from who’s around me  now is more than I could ask for. 1,000 fans may seem a lot for some and not many for others, but I can see how having 1,000 “true fans” can make a difference for an artist. The difference between a “true fan” and someone who considers themselves a fan of all sorts of things is the dedication and interest they show. There are artists who enjoy their fan base and keeping in touch with them. Then there are others who would prefer someone else to control the area of popularity. I think artists who decide to have someone else be in charge of their fan base may find it too overwhelming. In other cases they know they can have someone else keep in track of their fans because they can. Can I imagine myself as a photographer/digital artist with 1,000 true fans? I don’t see it happening anytime soon, but if I did have a 1,000 true fans, I would feel very grateful  and motivated. To have 1,000 true fans would be amazing and I would hold on to the opportunity to keep in contact with all of them. Gives me the chance to talk to the people who are inspired by work or who simply enjoy it. It’s all about Social Networks nowadays. Social Networks are the best way to keep track of networking and a fan base. My own personal website would be essential!

Hypertext

Hypertext is text that is displayed on computers/other devices with hyperlinks (other references) that the viewer can automatic access to. Hyperlinks are links references that the viewer can click on that takes them directly to more data/references. The examples given are hyperlinks.

Assignment 3- Kelly Weiland

I think that it might be easy to find 1,000 people who like you’re work. They would maybe buy it, maybe see a show if it was in the area, but they wouldn’t do ANYTHING to come and see it. I think that is what Kevin Kelly is trying express in this excerpt. Having 1,000 die-hard fans doesn’t sound too difficult, but I think it actually would be. You have to get your work out there and let the world know about it before you can find those fans. Not everyone is going to be crazy about your work, but a lot of people will be a fan. I think the best way to communicate with your true fans, and spread the word around about your work, would be to keep updated with a website. With technology these days, it is extremely easy to keep in contact with anyone who is interested. So posting your latest work, contact information, and dates for exhibitions would be able to keep your true 1,000 fans up to date. This way the true fans will be able to check up on your work and the latest.

Hypertext is a software system that links topics on the screen to related information and graphics. So yes all are examples of hypertext.

Homework Assignment 3 – Amy Balcerak

I think having 1,000 True Fans who would go out of their way to get my work would be incredibly rewarding and to know that someone loves my work that much would be a huge pay off for me. I would probably create a blog to keep my fans up to date with news about my work.

Hypertext is text that contains a link or links to other text. I think the first link is actually hypermedia and the second two are hyper text.

Assignment 3-Max Resnick

Response to Article: Can you imagine being an artist with 1000 true fans? One day I will hopefully be able to say that I am a artist with a million true fans. I believe that so called “true” fans is something that every artist would like to say at some point in their lifetime. Creating work that others admire and appreciate as much and if not more then the artist themselves is say something about the loyalty and admiration those specific fans have towards the design. Right now in my life creating art that people like and can say they think it is pretty is the path I am not traveling on. I want to create work that controversial and leaves people wondering why I did that specific design or composition. However in the long run, having “1000 true fans” is of course something I would at some point in my art career love to say I have. Keeping in contact with my followers through blogs, email, and my website will update my fans on new and upcoming work that am I designing. People that follow me as an artist, reinforce why I create compositions is what will inspire me to want to keep on creating art.

What is a hypertext? Hypertext is computer software and hardware that allows users to create, store, and view text and move between related items easily and in a nonsequential way. Yes all three examples are hypertext links.
