assignment 10

All the Projects

Homework 1: Web Page 1

Homework 2: Infographic

Homework 3: Hotel Website 1

Hotel Website 2

Homework 4: Hotel Internal 1

Hotel Internal 2

Homework5: Parrallax

Homework 6: Slider

Homework 7: Provost 1 and Provost Final

Homework 8:GameSalad Game (Inside my FileZilla in the gamesalad folder, no idea how to get it out)

Homework 9: Ecommerce Home and Ecommerce Internal

Homework 10: Scrollrama

Homework 11: Isotope- still working on it

Homework 12: Transitional- no chance of starting

I’d obviously like to have my last two projects dropped because they just don’t exist. You haven’t seen my Game Salad game- it’s similar to whack-a-mole with a 30 second timer and sharks instead of moles because everyone hates sharks. You have also not seen my Scrollarama, of which I am very proud so please look. I think it’s a great promotional-type site for my work. Everything is clickable also which is pretty cool. I’d like an A in this class because I think you can definitely see improvement in my work. I’m doing to do a little defending now:

My Parallax was intentionally dark and moody and I decided not to change it. I searched out those photos and shopped them to all look like that, so I’m sticking by that choice because I still like it. It’s Night Before Christmas-y

My Ecommerce site could definitely use more words, but I still think it’s pretty eegant while being functional and simple

My slider is one of my favorites because I started to shoot for these projects instead of searching for images. It was motivational

My Scrollarama is my favorite. It’s simple and matches my site and is pretty

Anywho, this class was really great and I will definitely be taking more web design classes, most likely after I graduate. I’m even considering a graduate degree… what have you done?!

Have a great Christmas!

Homework 10

Hi,

This is an entry in my blog.

Homework 10+11 super post

Well there’s a lot that I missed, but here’s a super post with everything!

Firstly, here’s my scrollarama.

It isn’t about winter break but I figured, it’s way more upbeat if it isn’t.

For the random blog, I’ll talk about all the rap music I downloaded this week. In the wee hours of Thursday morning, Thanksgiving Day, I found a mother-load of 90′s rap music – Outkast, Run DMC, the good Lil Wayne rap, you name it – this guys had it all, compressed into a zip file, ready for download. I couldn’t imagine why I’d want 697 songs worth of this stuff, but for some reason I found myself deciding that I would stay up later to download it – I mean it was already 3AM, what’s another hour? Overflowing with the glee of containing more rap music than I will ever play on my itunes library, I waited approximately 30 minutes for the glory that is is this zip file. I impatiently kept checking it, while re-watching the first season of American Horror Story (I mean, who wouldn’t want to re-watch the weirdness that Ryan Murphy dragged from the dredges of his mind?). Anyways, the allotted 30 minutes was up; I had it all. Names I’ve never heard of, songs I would never listen to, and a couple of new favorite rap artists later, I decided to sleep at 4 AM. Shout out to the person that complied all of this stuff.

Second order of business is my isotope.

It’s not done yet, but it’s gonna be filled with cute dogs and other adorable creatures.

Anyways, to critique somebody’s work from last week, I’m going to tackle Rachel’s packing for break Scrollarama. Everything is pretty straight forward – it’s neat, clean, and well organized. The only thing I would take a second look at is how I can’t seem to move past that pink dress, I just keep getting bumped back up. Other than that, nice job!!

Assignment 10

I’m making my scrollorama about Wally Kings Entertainment. Wally Kings is an event producer, artist manager, radio personality, and marketing consultant. His mission is to build a community through reggae music. I am trying to use the design skills I’m acquiring for his business. I’m frustrated with this html, though. I can’t figure out A) how to get rid of the pauses between animations in the “pin examples” section, despite messing with duration. B) Why my parallax element briefly appears before my fling element. And C) Why the colors of my letters in “Reggae Music” fade as they get bigger. I would really like to tweak these issues so that I can make something really cool for him.

Homework 10

Here is my Scrollorama

Here is my revised website

Blog Post: I wanted to write this blog post about the SuperScrollorama homework. I thought this was definitely an awesome homework, but actually trying to manipulate anything became frustrating quickly. Perfect example: I added the ninja star whipping across the screen, and after 30 minutes of confusion, I realized because the image dimensions were slightly too large, it apparently shifted the next animation of text, which meant you couldn’t see anything. Replacing things, after sizing everything correctly, wasn’t bad at all. Of course I ran into some other small glitches, but managed to debug them rather quickly. I wish I knew more about jQuery/ JavaScript so I could go in and start manipulating the animations/parallaxes a bit, but every time I tried, nothing would work.

The Only Cool Part of Web Design

Overall, I feel as though I have only started to scratch the surface of web design.  Even with my overall lack of knowledge on the subject, I am extremely happy with my (slight) ability to make functioning websites, even though we are simply swapping images and words for their originals, we are able to create swift and fun websites that would seemingly be quite hard to recreate. One would think it took years of training or schooling, yet no training or schooling taught us. We taught ourselves. Dreamweaver seems to save my life, due to its a easy nature and ability to see the code and page at the same time. I’m extremely proud to be able to show my video-game obsessed friends my simple game I made keeping how easy it was to myself. ;)

Welp, here’s my scrollorama. It’s about my weird family. Enjoy!

For my random blog, I’m gonna write about how much I hate the winter time. One reason I hate it is because of the snow. I don’t know how the hell I used to play in the cold snow when I was younger. I can barely even get warm in my own room nowadays. My room is literally the coldest room in my house. I hate sleeping with socks on; however during the winter time, if I don’t sleep with socks on, my feet basically turn into icesicles. It’s a problem. Another reason I hate it is because I always get stuck in my house since my car is not very…snow-friendly. It slides in everything. And my immune system sucks so I get sick every other week. The end.

I am going to tell you some of my favorite words in Japanese:

  • Sakura means Cherry Blossom.
  • Yuki means Snow.
  • Neko means Cat.
  • Usagi means Bunny or Rabbit.
  • And lastly Hime means Princess.

It is very cold outside. When it’s this cold outside, it should probably start snowing pretty soon. If it doesn’t start snowing, there’s really no point in it being this cold out. I mean, seriously, snow’s at least fun. And I don’t have a car so I don’t have to worry about slippin’ n’ slidin’ around. Hopefully it’ll snow pretty soon. Then, I’ll get some hot chocolate and enjoy the winter. Until then, though, this cold is a no good down low dirty so and so.

This is my web

For this week blog post, I want to talk about this class. I never have a web class before, after taking this class, I was so glad for choose this section, Cohen is a nice teacher, he is very funny, and I can laugh all the class. Also the work from this class is not so hard than I thought, but I have to pay lots of attention and time to do it if I want the work done better. I think this is a very good way for me to learn things, because concentration is very important for every one to do a nice work I think. Anyway, I feel this class is very good.

I didn’t get to write about my favorite works by Yves Klein in my scrollorama page so I’ll talk a little about it now. I had a hard time choosing between this and Fred Tomaselli who makes crazy complex work using various trippy mixed media, like pills and plants, so hopefully this is exciting to people as well. We never talked about Yves Klein in my 222 ARTH so I was super bummed.

KleinSchirnerFrankfurt2004

I feel like if you’re going to be an artist and go out and buy canvas and record your thoughts, no matter what you say, you’re pretty full of yourself. And that’s why Yves Klein’s work interests me so much – he was totally insane. I talked a little about the Anthropometries but the Monochromes are the most radical. Yves Klein started making full monochromatic paintings. No lines, no texture (that comes later,) nothing. Just solid unity of color and the velvety, dense pigment. He even went so far as to create his own color, International Klein Blue (IKB) with more sophisticated polymers. At first he had trouble getting museums to exhibit them, and when he did he got even more upset when critics tried to find meaning and connections between the works. They were representative according to him, something which I have come to believe. They show the true essence of life, just as the Anthropometries reduce the female form to its most recognizable features. Obviously blue has spiritual, cosmological, and natural world meanings, but Yves only wanted to paint space. Yves often referred to it as the void. He did, however, take credit for the sky, and wanted to kill the birds because they were ruining his best work. That’s the kind of confidence that really strikes me. He presented each identical painting with a different title and price, signifying that they were each of unique subjects. The presentation made the work. With the Anthropometries, he separated himself from the work even more by refusing to touch the paint and dressing up in a tuxedo while directing naked women across the canvas. He also created a symphony consisting of one note and about an hour of silence.

Yves Klein changed the way we think about abstract painting. I’m interested to see how people can push the bounds of web design. It has to be possible, we just haven’t found it yet. Now when people try to do something super minimalist and monochrome, it’s cliche, but when Yves did it he could get away with it because he was (near) the first. In the most literal sense it could just be more simplistic design. Perhaps the things we find most essential could be left out. Turn everyone on their heads. But I think web design has to follow a similar pattern to art history, so we must be in the ‘traditional’ phases now, it just seems more modern because we’re applying the things we’ve learned and experienced in other art forms. We haven’t had those crazy ground-breaking movements yet.

Also, I couldn’t help but post a picture of this recipe book I saw last weekend in a museum store…Seems relevant to our class:

Which I only saw AFTER I had made these cookies. (Alright, Natalie bragging time, but I can’t help it, they’re cookies and we talk a lot about cookies.) And hopefully someone bought them at the art history club bake sale.

Alright…damn…that was my attempt at being brief.

Homework 10

Scrollorama

For my blog post, I’ll talk about how I got sick this weekend. I blame the weather and poms. I had to cheer at the football game this past weekend and was not dressed enough for the cold (and the same with the rest of my team). Two sweaters and gloves was not enough for four hours of standing in the wind and freezing cold torture. On top of that, the next morning (Sunday), we had to participate in the Turkey Run at 7:30 in the morning. The temperature was 30 degrees but with the wind it was 12. 12 degrees. That alone is ridiculous, and it doesn’t even include being outside for more than two hours. We danced before the runner’s warm-up and cheered on the runners, and even with three jackets and two pairs of pants on, I still got sick. It looks like my Thanksgiving break will be filled with DayQuil and sadness.

I truly enjoy cookies more than any other desert.  But it is very hard to enjoy any cookie that comes from the store after eating my mom’s homemade cookies.  The passed down family recipes for all types of cookies ranging from peanut butter, chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, to her world famous gingerbread cookies.  I now carry the curse of never being able to truly be satisfied with a store bought cookie.

Random Blog Post

Alright, so this blog post is going to be dedicated to this class, web design, and my personal failures. I like this class. Never thought I would say that, but I do. I am learning a lot of stuff that is going to be extremely useful after graduation… now comes the “but.” I suck at it. Almost every week I feel like my work isn’t up to my normally very high standards, but I work for hours and put so much effort into it all. Some things I will never master the way I master other things. This is what this class is, and I am starting to accept that. Although I am still extremely OCD about my grades, so I’m hoping effort is taken into account at the end of the semester. I have a feeling that some other people in this class are in the same boat, at least I hope so.

PS. I’m sure I’ll miss it once I’m done with school and in the real world.
