Team mates: Peter Oliveto and Steve Elliot.

The Hotel Zaza logo needs a background in order not to be lost to the textures and the changing imagery on each web page. Here is one REALLY bad example:

Another example of horribleness is in that when you change between Hotel Zaza’s locations, the booking mask flips sides.
Exhibit A: (when you first open the site on google) http://www.hotelzaza.com/#index
Exhibit B: (when you pick a location) http://www.hotelzaza.com/#houston

Another example of wretchedness is that every time you click on a new menu, the text slides in, and then a new picture slides in as the backdrop. THat is too much movement–have the images change at the same time as the words when you click on menu items.

More nastyness: Please make the photo galleries easier to view. I don’t want to have to navigate to a new menu, then click “Full Screen” at the bottom of the page every time I want to see a cool pic either, because that is silly.

The obnoxious pattern backdrop behind the photo galleries is not pleasing and doesn’t match the epic, empowering feel I get from my expected experience at this hotel.
Example: http://www.hotelzaza.com/#houston/photos?c=events

The responsive nature of this page is significantly…horrible.
Page in question: http://www.hotelzaza.com/#bestrate

As a final overal critique of this site, this hotel has a very unclear identity. I cannot tell wheat my experience is supposed to be here. Am I going to be treated like a queen? Am I going to have fun? Would I bring my grandmother here? The identity is too mixed and I am not sure what to expect, and I would like to be able to have a firmer reference of how I will feel.

Hotel Zaza

Bad Things:
Social Media- Get organized and
Gallery Pages- This one and This one are basically isotopes anyway, so add some filters! This one is almost unnecessary since there are hardly any photos… make all of these into one page and just put a header within the body page to scroll between sets of photos.

The hound’s tooth needs to go… the and the red makes me feel like I am going to be murdered.

If you have concept suites listed- they need images if you click here, there should be something to let you know what you’re getting yourself into

Also, the font in the logo is very bad.. the logo itself is sort of nice but the font is bad. Also, why does your logo change? See photos

with partners Rachel and Natalie

-We don’t like the hounds tooth pattern

-More interactivity, such as a slideshow instead of just static images

-Better picture choice, for example, the cars in the picture below are bad

-People in the pics, looking like they’re partying. The hotel has a party vibe according to reviews, and the website doesn’t convey that

-Simplify homepage to only include Dallas/Houston buttons

-rewrite descriptions to convey sense of “VIP” experience

Zaza hotel

  • ·              The ‘Z’ looks like the ‘Z’ from Zorro with the line through the middle
  • Create your own logo, (unless it relates, which, it doesn’t)
  • Zaza, sounds like a Spanish woman with her boobs hanging out
  • Clutter of images
  • Hard and annoying to navigate
  • Pick a theme. It feels like Miami, then Mexico, and then a college dorm.
  • Everything does not need a Z
  • Needs to have a page specifically for rooms
  • Images should be more consistent
  • Organize the pictures better
  • It is nice how the homepage image gets bigger as the window size gets larger
  • Home page is elegant while internal page looks like crap
  • When you click on one of the locations, it should take you to a new page; not a page inside of that site.
  • Why does it when you try to book, it opens in a new link but opens the same link with a calendar?
  • ·              Simple colors used; like a three-color job with red, white, and black.

HotelZAZA – John, Isabel, Tianxiang

The websites gallery is extremely crowded and the pictures are not evenly aligned with each other. see here

When you go into the subsections of the gallery, there is an uneven distribution of photos.  Where some have plenty of images and some have close to none. see here

Annoying animations on the “zresorts page”.  see here

Overall navigation is confusing. see here

Zaza should stop ripping people off. see here

No drop down for the pool on the sidebar. see here

Zaza’s website does not appeal to young people. The dark red houndstooth background is old school and not very modern. see here

Hotel Zaza Critique

Team Members: Steve Elliott, Peter Oliveto, Melissa Sly

Link: http://www.hotelzaza.com/#index

1. Logo

-needs either needs to stand out more, or have some kind of background to keep it from blending in with the background photos

2. Booking mask

- reamins inconsistent from page to page, i.e. Here the booking mask link is on the left side of the page, while here the booking mask                     is on the right side of the screen

3. Calendar Events

- need to rethink how they portray calendar events. The small window that appears has slow response time / confusing delay.

4. Page Transition

- When clicking links to new pages, an informative paragraph slides in, and then 1-2 seconds later the photo changes. Yet, there are some pages where this functionality isn’t present. Too much inconsistency makes things uncomfortable.

5. Photo Gallery

- it takes some searching to find a photo gallery. Not easily apparent. Organization of their gallery needs to be cleaned up. i.e Here we see that the bottom of their gallery is too jagged . The red background texture should be reconsidered.

- When resizing the window in their gallery it looks choppy and glitchy. Possibly incoporate functionality from the “Isotope” assignment for their gallery.

6. Full Screen from  Photo Gallery

- when clicking the “Full Screen” button on the photo gallery screen here, the logo with a square red texture stays consistent on each page, which doesn’t have too much of  a purpose.

Assignment 11

Here is my isotope! (Ummm for some reason it loads in my browser 10% larger than it does when I preview from DreamWeaver. So Just zoom out once to see how its supposed to look– there’s supposed to be 4 rows of 7.)

I want to critique Natalie’s isotope. I think that she did a beautiful job setting this up. I really like her use of a the paint peeling in the background. It’s fun and colorful, and it adds some quirkiness to the page. I like how engaging her sorting filters are. Also, the work she is displaying is really nice to look at as well. I like the rectangular shape of her blocks instead of the square. Some of the images get cut off though. I was having the same trouble trying to figure out how I could click and get the full image to display and not just a larger square. I still haven’t figured out either, but it would be a cool feature. In terms of improving he website…I think the text for the filter is a little touch to read because the letters are so bold and closely kearned. Also, I would try to figure out why the last sort filter does not line up with its heading. Also the “Natalie Reed” logo is cool but it feels kind of odd being centered. If it were my website I would also include some links that go outside of the page because it feels a little trapped right now. Overall, I am really impressed!!

homework 11

I’m going to critique Rachel’s parallax from homework 5. I like that all of your images are the same size, and everything scrolls nicely. I have a problem with the third image though, as it doesn’t seem to go with the rest of them. While the other three have warm tones and show indoor scenes, the third one is cool and snowy and outdoors. I would change it so that all four are inside, or I would add more variation so that the snowy one doesn’t seem out of place.

homework 11

Classmate critique.

For the blog post, I want to talk about Kara’s scrollarama. I think it is very nice for me, because when I do this home work I have so much trouble to do some things which she did. Such as put back ground on the website, insert a video, and put some nice image user the word. When I tried to do this stuffs, the codes confused me a lot, so I do not know what should I do such as she did. But her work just so good for me. I love the background she used and the image she added to her project. But I think there still some thing could be changed such as the background may be can use a large form picture and fixed on the back so when the word changed the background would not. Any why it is a nice work for me.

super duper scrolly rama

Blog post. This blog post is about cookies. Cookies are delicious.

Welp, here’s my scrollorama. It’s about my weird family. Enjoy!

For my random blog, I’m gonna write about how much I hate the winter time. One reason I hate it is because of the snow. I don’t know how the hell I used to play in the cold snow when I was younger. I can barely even get warm in my own room nowadays. My room is literally the coldest room in my house. I hate sleeping with socks on; however during the winter time, if I don’t sleep with socks on, my feet basically turn into icesicles. It’s a problem. Another reason I hate it is because I always get stuck in my house since my car is not very…snow-friendly. It slides in everything. And my immune system sucks so I get sick every other week. The end.

I truly enjoy cookies more than any other desert.  But it is very hard to enjoy any cookie that comes from the store after eating my mom’s homemade cookies.  The passed down family recipes for all types of cookies ranging from peanut butter, chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, to her world famous gingerbread cookies.  I now carry the curse of never being able to truly be satisfied with a store bought cookie.

Random blog for class 10

This blog is about today’s cookies. Why cookies? why not?cookies are simplistic and can be a huge variety  without breaking the pocket. Cookies are easy to bring people in. Just looking at the cookies without any smell or not knowing the flavor, people will always try it no matter what. If they don’t like it people are ganna eat it anyway or they will hate it until someone tells them the flavor that they hate the most in the world. Cookies complicatedly simple.

Homework 9

The most interesting aspect, and I think relevant aspect of Ukeless’ work is the idea that she is “setting up a structure and having a lot of openings in the structure for other people to enter at will.” This is in essence what the web is. We set up a structure, a code, a design, that is meant to be accessed by others. And those who access the system can interact with it however they choose. I also like her idea of turning words into action and then action back into words. Lastly, I think it’s essential that she is calling attention to stigma attached to handlers of waste or maintenance workers because their jobs and the work they do is so essential to our lives.
