Ted’s Homework 11

For my critique, I have decided to analyze Natalie’s isotope.  Every aspect of her design and composition looks great. From the designed title, to the colorful and fun background, it is apparent that she has spent quite some time on her isotope. Her categories all function properly and seem to be grouped effectively to quickly see what’s wanted to be seen.  She covers a wide variety of mediums by using strong examples of her own work to demonstrate.  Not only is her isotope fun and enjoyable to look at, its very effective in offering the user the necessary information.

Ted’s Homework 10

The Only Cool Part of Web Design

Overall, I feel as though I have only started to scratch the surface of web design.  Even with my overall lack of knowledge on the subject, I am extremely happy with my (slight) ability to make functioning websites, even though we are simply swapping images and words for their originals, we are able to create swift and fun websites that would seemingly be quite hard to recreate. One would think it took years of training or schooling, yet no training or schooling taught us. We taught ourselves. Dreamweaver seems to save my life, due to its a easy nature and ability to see the code and page at the same time. I’m extremely proud to be able to show my video-game obsessed friends my simple game I made keeping how easy it was to myself. ;)

Phantasy Tour:

Screen Shot 2013-11-04 at 4.54.33 PM

My favorite website is a music forum named Phantasy Tour. Divided by bands or location, the user can enter the realm of either his favorite band or his hometown, and discuss, with like-minded individuals, upcoming concerts, artwork, or almost anything.  Because this tight-nit community uses it solely, most topics being discussed happen to be of interest to me.  Users can track their statistics; based on shows seen and even down to the number of times the user has seen each song. This general jam-band forum has provided me with countless hours of entertainment while also providing me with current events and other important matters.  While the level of sarcasm seems to scare the new user away, everyone welcomes discussion of my favorite music with open arms.

Homework 5

After reading the article, I agree that due to the internet and technology I have been inclined to write a great amount more than those did before me.  Until this article, I had never really thought about how much I actually am forced to write due to the constant use of technology and social media. Email and facebook alone have led me to write infinitely more than I have written for any other reason. These same things have also allowed me to access ideas and thoughts faster, probably influencing the way I have grown up and my personal beliefs.  Television doesn’t interest me. Nor does newspaper. My only interaction with outside stories, opinions, or ideas comes directly from my contact with people in real life, and my contact with the internet.

Homework 4

A website that I have learned to frequent and love is the Gaming company EA. Their entire website consists of a virtual playground which screams for the user to engage it.  As your mouse rolls over the different buttons and features, they chance color and even shape as one goes to select it.  The images are all pristine and bright, calling for your eyes attention.  They’re website consists of an easy-to-use interface which allows users of all ages, obviously, to navigate the site to find what they came for.  With minimal links from their home page, it seems to be quite hard to get lost on their page and seems even harder to not find what you’re looking for. Each link is responsive to your mouse, changing in color and allowing the user to easily know what they are about to click.  Overall, EA’s website is an effective demonstration of an immersive vivid media experience as it is far from your normal webpage.

Homework 3

Grasping the idea of having one thousand true fans is almost impossible at this stage of my life. When I look around me at who my “true fans” really are, they mostly consist of friends and family that may or may not be a “true fan.” My parents and friends are those who will support me no matter what the circumstance. If i were to have produced more work, and be interested in selling it and working for clients, I would probably go about it through social media. Growing up in this digital age, I know art not because of Galleries or Exhibitions close by, but by the countless hours of browsing the internet. I have found my favorite artists through search engines and Facebook. If I were in that situation, I would almost rely on social media and the internet to distribute and sell my work, contact my fans, and to keep a continuous portfolio of my past works. A successful website which presented my work in a fashionable way would be ideal to attract a bigger audience to view my work.

Infographic Website

Written Assignment:

This image, dubbed Hot Air Balloon, effectively uses Photoshop to blend and juxtapose an elephant with a hot air balloon, creating an interesting composition with an old time hint. Because of the unlikeliness of these two objects being joined, we are shocked at first, but due to the design with strong lines following the bridge and elephants nose, our eye travels all over the piece.

Flamingo Explorer is the shape of a bird, made of metal and wood objects, floating on top of water. I was drawn to this piece due to the impossible nature of its composition: hooks and fans, lights and barrels, wires and widgets, all making up a curious, goofy-looking bird.  The effective blending of all of the gadgets that make up the bird creates a very believable image with plenty to attract the eye.

Tyrannosaurus Rex is made up of smoke rising from a cigarette, curling to form the skeleton of the dinosaur it’s named after.  The flat back background limits the depth, focusing our eye on the angled billows of smoke creating the interesting dinosaur. It’s believable bone structure is effectively made up of rising smoke, with strong angles that pull the eye up and down again.

New York, New York is a beautiful piece picturing the demise, or evolution, of New York City. The image is split in half, with the waterline dividing the gorgeous sky from the submerged city.  It’s evenly balanced with the strong verticals of the two buildings reaching into the sky dividing the page horizontally and the flying vehicles adding some balance to the darker top left corner of the page.

Beauty effectively joins two chameleon-type lizards to share the same body. The artist affectively blends their bodies together, making it seem like the two heads are each looking at their own prey. Although the bugs aren’t portrayed entirely too accurately or realistically, the beautiful creature they have created makes up for it.

This final image from Worth’s 1000 Photoshop contest is Smith&Canon. It beautifully joins a camera and its different parts with the body and shape of a pistol. Due to the similar materials they are both made out of, we are able to join them without trouble in our mind. Its simply done and effective at the same time.
