Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! Life is not the greatest right now. Everything is happening at once and it’s a lot to handle. Dealing with an untimely loss on top of the typical stress deriving from TOWSON UNIVERSITY’S FINAL SEASON is a lot; however, I know that God wouldn’t put anyone in a situation that was too much for him or her. He is just giving one of many of life’s tests, ya know? Finals season is among us all and it will be a big one. A lot is riding on this semester and when the summer hits, I can take a deep breath and begin to cruise because things wont be as bad. Anywho, I wont sit here and complain my a** off too much so that’s all. To whoever reads this, God Bless and good luck on finals and all things such.

BECAUSE I MISSED LAST CLASS I MAY NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH THE HOMEWORK!!!

I am critiquing Brett Shinsky’s assignment 4: The Hotel Homepage Redesign. I find his redesign very impressive, what I like most about this work is the sleek and clean feel. The font used is sans serif and modern and he uses hierarchy well to distinguish titles and subtitles from body text. I am a fan of the blue, white and silver reduced color palette and the images give a nice touch as the viewer can clearly see what he/ she is looking to purchase. The top banner is neat and stands out; the tabs are clean and organized as well. If I could change one thing, I would make the call to action banner larger so; it doesn’t stand out as much and I feel that it should because the objective of the website is to allow people to book a room at this hotel.

AFTER completing this assignment, I found it to be somewhat fun. I was stuck for about an hour and a half looking for something in my code that  would allow the whole title to animate; because the word ‘Project’ was longer than 5 letters that were initially used for the word ‘orama’ , I had to add more code to animate the last couple of letters. It was a huge pain in the *** to figure out how to import images beneath, or even beside the words. I probably could not see me using this whole thing for a website; however, the greensock tweening thingy was very useful and I will be using that later on. Not a bad assignment!

ESPN

My favorite website is ESPN.com. This site is know as “The worldwide leader in sports” and is that and  a lot more. This is my favorite site not only because of the content it delivers, but also because of it is easy to navigate. There are a series of tabs along the top banner that displays various sports; this tab is consistent throughout the whole website no matter which page you find yourself. The ESPN logo never changes its position as well which makes for easy navigation if you get lost. There are also tons of interactive games, widgets, as well as polls to fill out on each page available which makes the site that much more enjoyable. Small detail that I find cool are the the different backgrounds for each sport; each sport is given its main color so that you know which genre you are in, there are also layout lines of each sports playing court and field. For example, the images used in the NFL section of the site are X’s and O’s (which is commonly used in football to depict the offensive and defensive players). Click on this ESPN link and see for yourself.

I completely agree with John Urban’s piece, Why Designers Should Learn How to Code. He makes strong points supporting the fact that nowadays, it is better to be more versatile than to be just a coder or just a designer. I thought it was clever to link this topic to orchestral music because if you if you design something yourself, you have your own vision and you know how it (the final product) should be. You cannot g0 wrong that way. My father always tells me, “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!”

Here is the modified version of this home page.

I decided to remove the four bottom images/ links and add a slideshow where the images were. I also moved and enlarged the “Book Now” buttons to the bottom of the page.
