Homework Assignment 13 / Kaitlin Mueller

I have so much work to do and my life is particularly difficult right now.

I chose to include my own images, as well as my favorite photographer’s images in my tile gallery. I think the tile gallery is a quick, easy way for artists to show off images of their artwork.

Critique: Paul Shiah’s Assignment 5/6 hotel pages

Awesome job! These seem like reputable pages for a nice, modern hotel. The images he used really show-off the Donovan House’s features. The gray and purple scheme fits well and I especially like the boxy background he made.

I think I had… fun? doing this assignment… oh boy.

“In web design use, parallax refers to the scrolling technique used to create the illusion of depth on websites.”

Parallax on a website gives the page a more dimensional feel. The website below uses parallax for their fashion site, the scrolling motion is cohesive with the models and the clothing they’re showing.

Walter Benjamin had concerns about the fate of art in the age of mechanical reproduction. With increasing technology, it’s become easier to recreate the work of masters, although with more precision. A concern of his lays then in the sacred authenticity of art. If artworks are mass reproduced, they have a better chance of being seen by the world, although artists might lose their credibility.

“Better Than Free”

Kevin Kelley’s article made me realize how our generation can get so much for free just from the internet. We may pay for internet service, but music, movies, videos, images etc are all available for free online. Immediacy, personalization, interpretation, authenticity, accessibility, embodiment, patronage, and findability supply value to free copies. “These new eight generatives demand an understanding of how abundance breeds a sharing mindset, how generosity is a business model, how vital it has become to cultivate and nurture qualities that can’t be replicated with a click of the mouse.”

I haven’t traveled too much thus far in life. Beaches are fun though. Traveling in general is fun, doesn’t matter the destination. Seeing new places and experiencing different people is awesome.

My favorite site is Tumblr. It’s a blogging site that anyone can join. It’s a way to share music, art, videos, or any other media you may like. It’s a simple and well organized site, containing optional tagging for finding media of interest. You can choose to follow people with similar interests to your own. I visit this site several times daily and spend, on average, an hour daily on this site (it’s very addictive.)

Having 1000 fans would, on one hand, be awesome; you could support yourself financially speaking with your artwork. The downfall is pressure and high demand for new work.

Hypertext is the method by which you move around on the web using text which contains links to other texts, but is not constrained to text (could include images, videos, etc. Hypertext is the underlying concept defining the structure of the World Wide Web, making it easy to share information over the internet. All of the listed links are hypertexts.

Worth 1000 photoshopping contests:

In my browsing, these four images caught my eye. I like the dreaminess of their focusing, the

desaturation and boldness of colors. These images create an alternate reality and I think that’s

pretty cool.

Homework Assignment 1 / Kaitlin Mueller

I too stood in the hallway outside room 4030 filled with hope thinking that on day one of class, this professor I’d not heard of was a no-show. So I was thinking I could go home, go out, whatever. Awesome!   -_-  Just kidding. Not our class. We’re actually 10 minutes late for class. Bummer. Sean’s lecture was thought provoking, for sure. I was both happy and scared shitless that this professor was confrontational about verbalizing our thoughts and questions. I think this class will be rigorous, which is cool… but I’m really wishing I knew squat about web design right about now.
